Modern laboratory for material research for aircraft industry

On the 1st of October 2005, the new modern Research and Development Laboratory for Aerospace Materials was  established at the Rzeszów University of Technology under the leadership of Prof. SIENIAWSKI - the Head of Department of Materials Science at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics. The R & D Laboratory will carry on research and  development tasks  in  the  area  of  advanced material technologies for aerospace industry with collaboration with WSK  "PZL-Rzeszów" S.A. and the universities associated in the Centres of  Advanced Technology: AERONET "Aviation Valley" and CAMAT. The R & D Laboratory will start its operation in 2007, after necessary adaptation of the buildings and  machines and devices acquisition. Financial resources are provided by Ministry of  Education and Science, European Community and Marshall Office of Rzeszów.
The Research and Development Laboratory for Aerospace Materials will carry on research tasks concerning directly new technologies introduced in WSK "PZL-Rzeszów" and other companies associated in "Aviation Valley". Research activity will involve scientists teams from Universities of Technology in Rzeszów, Warsaw, Katowice and Lublin, AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow and  Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. In the first stage of  operation the activity will concentrate on directional solidification of nickel based superalloys, heat and creep resistant coatings on aircraft turbine engines elements and high speed machining (HSM).
In the R & D Laboratory the other research and servicing tasks will be also carried out, e.g. training courses and scientific seminars for industry and testing for conformity certificates ordered by industrial companies. It will enable students, PhD students and engineers to become familiar with advanced technologies for aerospace and material technologies selection processes. Laboratory will also promote and propagate achievements in science and engineering in the area of new material technologies and help to implement them in production processes in Polish aerospace industry.
